Tips On Choosing Baby Bedding

The news of the impending birth of a baby brings joy and excitement in any home. For the expecting parents, this means driving to the nearest shopping mall to buy baby stuff. Choosing baby bedding is just one of the many things that you’re going to need to get in preparation for the little one’s coming. A lot of new parents spend so much time planning the perfect nursery, but are at a loss on where to start looking for the things that will fill it up.

For first-time parents, the prospect of buying baby things may sound overwhelming. But if you know where to start looking and exactly what to look for, you will find that shopping for baby bedding and other stuff will turn out to be a lot of fun.

Tips on buying baby bedding

1. Quality is priority. Baby bedding is one of the most important things that you will need to get. You can’t just go with the cheapest or even the cutest one you’ll find at the mall. Always go for items that are made of high-quality material. For one, the bedding should be lightweight, warm and breathable. You will also want to get more than one crib sheet so you don’t have to wash frequently.

2. Size matters. Sometimes, it’s best to get a crib first before you get beddings. In this way, you’ll have an idea of how big your baby bedding should be. Make sure that you get bedding that is of the same size as your mattress.

3. Look at the materials the bedding is made of. To make it easier for you to regulate the room’s temperature and constantly keep your baby warm, you will want to start with cotton sheets and blankets. You can layer them one on top of the other during cold weather or you can decrease the number of layers in the summer.

4. Have a motif in mind. The good thing about baby bedding these days is that they already come in sets – you’ll get crib sheets, blankets and bumpers, among others. It’s best if you already have a nursery theme in mind before you go shopping. If you have one of those cribs that can be used until the baby is three years old, you will want to get sheets that are suited for infants to toddlers. Frills and lace may look good on infants but they would hardly be suitable for three-year old kids.

Baby bedding comes in various styles and themes. If you’re working with a specific color motif for your baby’s room, it’s best to go with beddings along the same color.

5. Make sure it’s comfy. However, matching colors should not be your primary concern. Comfort and functionality should always come first. Since there’s no way to tell what your baby is going to be allergic to, it’s best to go with beddings made of hypoallergenic material such as wool and cotton. Don’t buy comforters that are too heavy or way too big. Babies wouldn’t need comforters until they’re a little older so it’s better if you stock up on blankets instead.
